Good Food Awards-Call for U.S. Coffee Submissions

Dear Artisan Coffee Roaster –

We are writing to encourage you to be part of a brand new initiative called the Good Food Awards <http://www.goodfoodawards.org/> . The Awards were created to recognize exceptional food producers from around the country who are making the sort of food we all want to eat – authentic, responsibly produced and incredibly tasty. Many of the curators and organizers that made Slow Food Nation such an incredible success (including Coffee Curators Andrew Barnett, Eileen Hassi, Tony Konecny & Brent Fortune) have united with Seedling Projects <http://www.seedlingprojects.org/> , a ‘do tank’ for the food movement, to create the Good Food Awards. It will showcase the breadth and depth of “Good Food” being production in America with awards for beer, coffee, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, pickles and preserves.

Coffee winners will be selected from a blind tasting event (no roaster or coffee names) that will include professionals from across the nation – green coffee buyers, importers, Q-graders, and expert cuppers.  (The growing list of judges can be found here <http://www.goodfoodawards.org/coffee/> .)  The awards will be given in five regions, <http://www.goodfoodawards.org/the-awards/regions/>  ensuring the industry is incubated all around the country. Our aim is to help consumers choose products that meet their values and are incredibly delicious, so we have chosen to keep the categories simple and easy to understand for even casual coffee lovers.

All coffee roasters sourcing coffees with fair producing practices and transparency from seed-to-cup, producing coffees the exhibit exemplary flavor and balance may enter up to two coffees at www.goodfoodawards.org/coffee <http://www.goodfoodawards.org/coffee/>  now through September 15.  In early October, instructions on when to send a sample will be emailed to all entrants, and winners will be invited to receive an award at a ceremony with Alice Waters in the San Francisco Ferry Building, take part in a Good Food Awards Marketplace and receive local and national media coverage. We are thrilled that the idea is already catching on, with coverage in the  New York Times <http://dinersjournal.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/03/the-good-food-awards/> , San Francisco Chronicle <http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/07/30/FDN21ELT0L.DTL> , Chow.com <http://www.chow.com/food-news/52967/good-food-awards-ready-to-judge-your-jam/>   and more. Please join us in this inaugural year to spotlight talented food producers all around the country.

If you know you would like to submit a coffee, but do not know specifically which coffee, you can submit a TBD entry.  Actual roasted coffee will not be needed until the first week of October (for the tasting/judging event).
